Everyone’s heard the unforgettable chorus of the song War by Edwinn Starr:
War (huh, yeah) / What is it good for?/ Absolutely nothing (Uh-huh) / War (huh, yeah) / What is it good for? / Absolutely nothing / Say it again
Let’s substitute organizing for war and everything for nothing:
Organizing (huh, yeah) / What is it good for? / Absolutely everything (Uh-huh) / Organizing (huh, yeah) / What is it good for? / Absolutely everything / Say it again
This may not be the next hit on the Top 40, but it can be your personal theme song to conquer your clutter or better manage your time. This song has an unmistakable rhythm as does your life. If life is a song then organization is the melody. It provides the harmony and rhythm to push you on your way.
Rhythm is defined as “movement or procedure with uniform or patterned recurrence of a beat, accent, or the like.” Can you see how this is true for you? Everyone has a natural rhythm of getting things done. The key to being organized is to notice your rhythm and then make any necessary tweaks to ensure your pattern is worth repeating. If you find that your organizing rhythm can use a boost, you’re not alone. Most of us are so busy doing that we don’t take time to make sure what we’re doing makes sense. Stop and take a deep breath right now. Think about how you spend your days. If you feel hurried, stressed, and disorganized, then it’s time to make a change.
Life coach Christine Venart composed this wonderful quote, “By listening to the rhythms inside and all around you, trusting your gut and intuition, you will naturally be able to find your place, find your rhythm.” Start today. Try our easy peasy rules of organizing or introduce TOF into your home. You can even start with as little as 15 minutes. Whatever you do, it will be worth it.
