Once upon a time, in a land far, far away there lived a mama who wanted to start freezer cooking to make her life easier. She tried twice and then quit. The end.
Am I the only one who has tried and failed miserably at freezer cooking? I have to admit that I loved pulling a healthy, homemade meal out of the freezer, heating it up and voila, dinner was served. It’s the middle that I don’t like; planning and preparing all that food ahead of time kinda, well, sucked. I certainly admire the mamas who do it, but I just don’t think freezer cooking is for me. At least, not at this stage of the game.
With homeschooling starting at the end of the month, I knew that I needed a plan for our meals if we’re going to eat healthfully at home, so I decided to give meal planning a go again. I figure planning meals a month in advance will give me the best of both worlds — I know what we’re eating, but I don’t have to make it all at once. 🙂
To make this month’s meal plan I used a mix of meals I usually make with a couple of new recipes from Pinterest. I also alternated a week’s menu every other week. In other words, we will have the same menu for the weeks of August 4th and 18th, then the same menu of the weeks of August 11th and 25th. I’m keeping an open mind to see what exactly ends up being the best way to go about meal planning for our family, so this method may change.
So without further adieu, here is our menu for August:
FYI, GS stands for green smoothies. I want to get those in daily, so I added them to the breakfast menu.
I’ll let you know how things went at the end of the month, so stay tuned! In the meantime, do you plan your meals for the month? What are you favorite recipes, websites, blogs, etc?
