Getting The Boys Out In Nature

Given the winter we had, I promised myself and the boys that we would be outside as much as humanly possible once the weather permitted. I’ve kept my promise because we’ve been outside almost everyday so far. I’m making a real effort to not just take them outside in the yard or to the park, but to really get them outside in nature. I read a lot about the benefits of getting kids out in nature and they run deeper than you’d think. Not only do kids get more exercise and fresh air, but they can experience stress relief and decreased anxiety and depression. You can read more about the benefits here.

Since we’re just now getting into outside naturey fun, I hit up Pinterest and started a board of not just potential “get out in nature opportunities” for the warmer weather, but for potential field trip locales for all year round. You can check it out here.

Here are pictures of our recent day trip to Kensington Metro Park:

Hope you and your family can get out in nature this summer and beyond!

  2. That is wonderful….I need to get out more with the kids. We normally go the the neighborhood park with a lake and ducks, but we have been so into this routine (no longer unschooling) of homeschooling that it takes up lots of time. Especially with the cooking and cleaning in between. So did you go to a farm with the boys? I would like some outing ideas if you don’t mind. Have a wonderful day!
