This weekend was one for the books, y’all. I got to see two of the most influential people to have come into my life, in person — Dave Ramsey and Oprah Winfrey. WHAT?!?!? Over the years, they have shared many of the resources that have been huge in empowering me to dream bigger, push harder, and be more authentic and intentional with my life. So the fact that I got to see both of them, back-to-back, on the same weekend… all I can say is that it was meant to be.
On Thursday night, my husband and I travelled to Grand Rapids, MI to see Dave Ramsey and his daughter, Rachel Cruze, at their Legacy Journey Live event. This event was perfect for us because we’re rounding the corner of completing baby step two in Dave’s baby step process and are starting to develop a plan for our next steps. (You can find out more about our debt freedom journey here.) The message we took away from the event was that the financial choices we make right now either benefit or hinder us, and those choices usually set the tone for generations to come. The event also offered us the time and information to continue the conversation we’ve been having all along, now with more clarity and a stronger sense of urgency. It’s a great place to be.
If seeing my boy Dave Ramsey wasn’t enough for one weekend, I got to see Oprah Winfrey and friends at the Life You Want Tour. The two-day event was packed with not only dynamic speakers like, Oprah and Iyanla Vanzant, but gave an entire “Oprah experience” at O-Town, an outdoor area with different mini-events, photo ops with Oprah memorabilia and other fun stuff. I was freezing so I didn’t last long, but got a couple of pictures anyway.
Oprah and friends absolutely delivered. I took pages of notes, laughed, teared up a bit (I didn’t cry surprisingly!) and, again, came away with more clarity and a stronger sense of urgency to live the life I want. Now it’s time to act, and I’m on it.
This weekend was epic for me. I’m still digesting all of the information, and I have a feeling it will reveal itself in a slow drip kind of way. Wisdom will show up at the exact time I need it, and I’ll trace it back to this weekend. That’s how things tend to work for me. I’m sure I’m not alone in that. If you have the chance to attend either event, do it. It’ll be an investment in your future best self, and don’t we all need that type of investment?
